Some nerves before an exam or test are normal. Nerves that stop you showing what you actually know are worth working on. Hypnotherapy helps you walk in calm, think clearly and recall what you've learned.
What it can feel like
Your mind goes blank when you turn the paper over. Your hands shake on the steering wheel with the examiner beside you. You know the answers the night before and lose them in the room.
How hypnotherapy can help
Sessions focus on three things: settling your body's stress response, improving calm recall, and rehearsing the day going well, from waking up to walking out afterwards.
You also learn a short technique to use in the waiting room or at the start of the test, so the calm is there when you need it most.
What we'll do in sessions
- Talking through what happens to you on test days
- A calming routine for the night before and the morning of
- Rehearsing the test itself in a calm, focused state
- A 30-second technique for the moment nerves rise
If worry about exams is affecting your eating, sleeping or mood more generally, please speak to your GP too.
Questions people ask
Does it help with driving tests?
Yes. Driving-test nerves are one of the most common reasons people come, and we rehearse the whole test calmly.
Will it help me learn more?
It won't replace revision, but many people find they concentrate better and recall more when they're calmer.
Can children or teenagers come?
That depends on whether I see under-18s, and always needs a parent or guardian's consent. Please ask.
Sessions are available in person in Hexham and online, wherever you are.
