Lying awake while the clock ticks round is lonely and exhausting. Often it isn't the body that won't sleep, it's a mind that won't stop. Hypnotherapy helps the two settle down together.
What it can feel like
You may struggle to drop off, wake at 3am and lie there thinking, or sleep for hours and still wake up tired. Then comes the worry about not sleeping, which makes the next night harder still.
How hypnotherapy can help
Sessions teach your body and mind a reliable way into deep relaxation, which is the natural doorway to sleep. We also look at the thoughts and habits that keep you awake, and replace the bedtime "battle" with a calmer routine.
Many people find a recording of their session especially helpful, so they can listen in bed and hear a familiar voice guiding them down.
What we'll do in sessions
- A look at your current sleep pattern and bedtime routine
- A deep relaxation to show your body what switching off feels like
- A short technique for getting back to sleep in the night
- A personal recording to use at home, if you'd like one
If you snore heavily, stop breathing in your sleep, or your sleeplessness started with a health change or new medication, please see your GP too.
Questions people ask
Will listening to a recording make me reliant on it?
No. The aim is for you to learn the technique yourself, so you can drift off with or without it.
I wake at 3am. Can that be helped?
Yes. We practise a short routine for exactly that moment, so you're not lying there wide awake.
Does it help with shift work?
It can help you switch off at unusual times, although it can't change the effect of the shifts themselves.
Sessions are available in person in Hexham and online, wherever you are.
