When stress has been running for weeks or months, it stops feeling like a response to anything and starts feeling like who you are. It isn't. Your body has simply been in "on" mode for too long, and it can learn to switch off again.

What it can feel like

You might notice tight shoulders, a jaw you clench without meaning to, a short temper, or evenings where you are exhausted but can't settle. Some people feel it as a constant low hum; others as a sudden wave when one more thing lands on the pile.

How hypnotherapy can help

Hypnotherapy for stress is mostly about giving your nervous system a clear, repeated experience of calm. In a session you're guided into a deeply relaxed, focused state, and many people are surprised how different their body feels afterwards.

We then use that calm to look at the situations that wind you up the most, and rehearse meeting them more steadily. You leave with a short self-hypnosis technique you can use at your desk, in the car park or before bed.

What we'll do in sessions

  • A relaxed conversation about where the pressure comes from
  • A guided relaxation you can feel working in the room
  • Practising a two-minute "reset" you can use anywhere
  • A recording to listen to between sessions, if you'd like one
How many sessions? Many people notice a difference after the first session, and choose two or three more to make the new habits stick.

If stress is affecting your sleep, appetite or mood for a long time, it's worth mentioning to your GP as well.

Questions people ask

Will I be asleep?

No. You'll feel deeply relaxed but you stay aware of everything, and you can open your eyes or speak at any time.

Can it help with work stress?

Yes. We can focus on specific situations, such as busy days, difficult meetings or an overflowing inbox, and rehearse handling them calmly.

Is it just relaxation?

Relaxation is part of it, but the aim is to change how you respond to pressure, so the calm carries over into ordinary days.

Sessions are available in person in Hexham and online, wherever you are.
